In which other summer camp are children inspired to become a king, a witch, a knight in shining armor, or even a love-sick donkey?
On the grounds of Wing’s Castle in Millbrook, NY, yours will have a chance to travel backward through time. Within the tented village of the Annandale troupe they will participate in a unique learning experience and become acquainted with the works of William Shakespeare, in a bucolic outdoor classroom, with the distant Catskill Mountains as their backdrop.
During the 5 weeks of camp, children participate in acting and movement classes, improvisational games, themed scavenger hunts, field activities like “Capture the Flag”, period dancing, sword fighting, swimming in the castle “moat”, and scenery, costume and prop making craft workshops.
The camp culminates in four evening performances, staged at the castle itself, in the open air, on a mid-summer’s night. These performances are open to the public.
This year under the tutelage of Mr. Peter Wing himself, the children will participate in the troupe’s most innovative endeavor since it’s inception in 1992.
It’s “Shelley meets Shakespeare”, an unlikely literary marriage of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, as told through the verse of William Shakespeare. An original idea, conceived by Mr. Wing, he will script and direct these performances in Shakespeare’s Elizabethan language, within the context of the 1931 film version of Frankenstein. The final performance promises heartfelt human frailties, bats, lightning bolts and burning towers.
So come one! Come all! And join us for the theatre experience of a lifetime with the Annandale Troupe.
